Ronin Gray "Self Titled" MV

It's been a CRAZY few weeks. I won't bore you with the details but I've been busy finishing my magazine, designing a few sites, and writing a book (post coming soon). But I was looking for the right inspiration for the come back and really digging this track I got in my email.

Inspired by the West Coast legends like Snoop, Too Short, and NWA, the Boyle Heights emcee, Ronin Gray drops the visuals to his new self-titled video.

Ronin gets his name from the Japanese word which means "Samurai with no lord or master" and Gray, "of a color between black and white" -

The beat's pretty funky.

Blackbear "4u"

I was watching some suggested instagram video of an albino dude playing basketball and SCHOOLING people and there was this ill ass song in the background. After scrolling through 200+ comments of people making remarks about the dude's appearance I FINALLY came across someone who mentioned the song. I played it on repeat.

I was afraid to hear the original because the remix was so dope. But I found the original song. Equally dope. I found other music. Even DOPER and I got hooked. I looked him up while doing some design work for our magazine and ended up getting 3 albums deep on this cat and this song stuck in my head. He's worked with Mike Posner, G-Eazy, Beiber, etc etc. Kid's the truth.

Similar vibe to partynextdoor with his melodies and content. I love hearing music that I can relate to but also that doesn't make you ashamed to FEEL. We aren't robots (yet). I'm tired of people criticizing Drake for expressing emotions they're afraid to admit they have for whatever reason. I've gone through and checked played everything this guy's released and THIS SONG stands out in his catalog. But enough words, let's listen:

Cee Goods - "Good Vibes" Album

LA / Portland producer Cee Goods releases his new album Good Vibes which features some of the Northwest's best. This is pretty dope..and RIGHT as I finished typing that sentence, on track 5 he said the word, "essence". So it was meant to be posted here. lol

I'm cleaning up my home office and planning my work for the week and I'm still slapping this. Great music to work and vibe to.

"With every artist handpicked and every beat crafted by himself, Cee Goods has been working on this project for 2+ years and the attention to detail definitely shows. Following up on the success of his recent instrumental project ROOTS, Goods has been working his way through the ranks as one of the NW's most talented producers and possibly its biggest hidden gem."

Check it.

YungTM - "Stay Strong" MV

I got this video in my inbox the other day about a rapper who's getting comparisons to Tupac. I grew up in the 90's and remember hearing Pac on the radio. I still slap his music and usually when I hear "he's the new ____!" or "Is she the new ____?" I tune it out because Usually it's been something WACK. OR, worse, it's something that's pretty dope but is too young to Ever live up to the comparison.

Most recently, all the talk about that Shakur boxer kid "being the next Muhammad Ali ["ha"] then seeing him bawling after winning the Olympic silver and pouting saying "I don't like to LOOOooose!". But I digress...

We're all influenced by what came before us. Comparisons will happen. BUT, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy something new. Like this. Yung TM is pretty nice. This video is dope. I like it a lot and hope to hear more from him soon. Forreal.

ESSINCE THROWBACK: Big Pun - "It's So Hard" #TBT

This was one of my favorite songs/videos by the late, great Big Moon Dawg aka Big Pun. Pun was the first solo Latin MC to go platinum and has been my favorite rapper since "Capital Punishment" came out. The way he was able to flip words and rhyme schemes was incredible and ESPECIALLY to have that breath control at HIS size?

R.I.P. to one of the g.o.a.t's. RIPPUN. Seeing everyone come together for this video is dope. Love to Donnell Jones on the hook.
