Hip-Hop In: Turkey (Onur Yeğin)

In this issue of my international series, "Hip-Hop In" we head over to Istanbul to check out Turkish producer Onur Yeğin. I was actually talking with a Turkish friend this morning about visiting and some of their beautiful architecture. Onur is known for his productions for underground Hip-Hop artists Çağrı Sinci, Harun Adil, Onur Uğur and Dipnot. Sampled from Turkish cult songs, he also released two instrumental projects titled "Instrumental Vol. 1" and "Je Suis Perdu".

Onur Yeğin's new instrumental EP "Örs" (meaning: anvil) is now available via Deadly Habits Music owned by Turkish producer Farazi.

Far East Movement Sign Multi-Million Dollar Chinese Partnership

I've been down with F.E.M. since the early 2000s back in my AznRaps.com days. I have a track called Blue Collar Blues when they were more backpacky (similar to Black Eyed Peas' evolution). I love seeing their growth and what it does for the urban And Asian communities.

They recently signed a multi-million dollar deal as the first American act with Chinese company, NetEase. "Not only is NetEase one of the largest internet companies in the world, this new venture breaks ground as the very first deal they’ve signed with an American recording artist to develop and release brand new musical content."

“We spent the last few years in Asia learning about the music scene out there, and we felt it was important to add that identity into Far East Movement. This project is specifically inspired by our journey in China. It’s a humbling story of discovering new things about yourself and being open and receptive to wherever life takes you.” - Prohgress, Far East Movement

Fellow Foreign Adoptee, Kingsley makes a new fan in "Lock Me"

This cat's dope. Being a foreign adoptee who found roots in hiphop and wants to rebuild his own community, I can dig this dude's story.

Born in West Africa, adopted at 11 months and raised in Newark, NJ, Kingsley’s sound makes connections to his roots by incorporating R&B, Pop, Reggae, and Afro beat. Kingsley’s goal, along with his home team F.E.D.D.I, (Fetch Every Damn Dollar Insight), is to show the world the power of self love and to help rebuild the black communities by encouraging others to pursue their dreams by reaching passed their limits and always believing that anything and everything is possible.

Layla Khepri gets personal on "The KickBack Reloaded"

This gets real personal and heavy. I've been working with Layla Khepri for a couple years and I have no doubts she'll be a household name. But in this cyclical life no rise is complete without falls. She went to social media and was open about the passing of her mother and how it obviously affected her personally and career-wise.

I was surprised Diamond B Frazier, host of The Kickback Reloaded was that blunt in some of her questioning but I know Layla needed to share her experiences not only as a release but to help others going through such a close, personal loss. Layls's extremely strong and her bounce back is tremendous. The interview is very deep and personal as she not only discusses her forthcoming album but topics of drug use and timing in the industry!

Check it out below and follow @LaylaKhepri on social media and visit www.LaylaKhepri.com
